Meals on Wheels is a name familiar to Australians and is at the heart of many communities. It represents helping hands, teamwork and looking out for each other. It is all about people in the community joining forces to help others.

Whilst age and disability may reduce some people’s capacity to get out and about, Meals on Wheels help make it possible for them to stay in their homes, where most are happiest, and maintain their independence. Delivery of nutritious meals, social interaction and a friendly check of a client’s well being by Meals on Wheels volunteers can help people live the lives they choose.

While the tradition and values of Meals on Wheels remain true to its origins, a focus on engaging people of all ages from all walks of life is unfolding and bringing renewed energy, ideas and vision to help the organisation continue to provide a vital service and meet the needs of the community.

We are looking to appoint a Volunteer Marketing/Social Media Assistant to help some of our 154 Meals on Wheels Services create their social media pages, assist with content creation and image sourcing, and schedule content particularly Facebook, Twitter, and/or YouTube.

Reporting to the Marketing Manager, you will work collaboratively to build communities, improve brand awareness and engagement as well as expanding the presence of our Meals on Wheels NSW Services across social media platforms.

You may be a marketing/communication student or recent graduate, or social media enthusiast looking to work with a professional, friendly and passionate team who are making a positive difference. This may be your stepping stone to paid employment in Australia, or a practical way that you can give back to society.

• The Marketing/Social Media Assistant will undertake the following tasks: • Collect stories from Meals on Wheels NSW Services on a monthly basis. • Schedule and organise content for various social media pages in a calendar for various Meals on Wheels Services that may require assistance. • Post relevant stories and content according to the Meals on Wheels NSW social media policy to multiple social media pages. • Contribute to methods in growing our online community. • Report on/respond to online discussions where appropriate. • Other relevant tasks as required.

Selection criteria (desirable): • Experience in writing content, publishing, marketing or social media • Experience managing multiple social media platforms • Strong understanding of social media trends as relevant to NFP sector • Excellent written and verbal communications skills • Reliable and organised, with excellent attention to detail and ability to work to deadlines • Ability to train stakeholders in how to use various social media platforms • Has a proactive approach • Has good telephone manner

Hours: The Marketing/Social Media Assistant volunteer is required for approx. 6 hours per week. You will work from our office on Cooper Street in Surry Hills (close to Central Station) initially, but then have the flexibility to work from home once fully briefed. We ask for a minimum commitment of six months.
