Many parents from a migrant or refugee background who are at home with young children have limited opportunities to practice their English in a safe, child friendly environment. Libraries ACT and Kippax Uniting Care are partnering up to run a weekly English conversation playgroup to help these women learn English and to provide opportunities for them to socialise with other mothers in a similar situation.

This playgroup will provide hands on activities for the mothers and their children to practice English. The playgroup will operate at both Kippax Uniting Church and Kippax Library. We need two or more volunteers to run these sessions. We are particularly interested in recruiting volunteers who have had some experience teaching English as a Second Language. The volunteers would be involved in the planning of themes for the term, and supported with relevant resources.
