Volunteer Mentor

Menslink
Logo for Menslink

Male volunteers will be matched with a young man aged between 13 nd 18 for a one-to-one mentoring relationship.

The role of a Menslink mentor is not that of a parent-like figure or counsellor, but rather a friend who will be understanding and non-judgemental.

Menslink conducts the matching process in group settings designed to allow all participants to become more familiar with each other. The final choices of who will be their mentor are made by the young men themselves.

Subsequent to this, (non-compulsory) monthly activities or events – such as kayaking, gallery tours, movies and camping – are organised and paid for by Menslink. These are for both mentors and mentees. Beyond this, mentors and mentees are encouraged to be in regular contact (phone, email etc) and undertake appropriate occasional outings together e.g. sporting events, coffee in town and bushwalking.

Mentors are not expected to bear the financial cost of these occasions, other than providing the means of transport to and from such.

Menslink expects the mentoring relationship to be of a two year duration and during that time will get regular feedback from all parties involved: young man, mentor and parents. This is to ensure all are satisfied with the circumstances and progress of the relationship.

All volunteers are screened by Menslink and undergo the necessary working with vulnerable people check before participating in the program. Menslink provides full training to all volunteers.

You can not apply for this role as it is no longer available.
