AMEP TAFE NSW Volunteer English Tutor - Skype!

ADULT MIGRANT ENGLISH PROGRAM (AMEP) The Adult Migrant English Program (AMEP) was established in 1948 and was legislated under the Immigration (Education) Act 1971. The AMEP is funded by the Australian Government Department of Education and Training. It provides up to 510 hours of English language tuition for eligible new, adult migrants and refugees to help them learn foundation English language and settlement skills. TAFE NSW works with other stakeholders to assist AMEP students to settle in the community. The program supports the development of knowledge and skills that significantly improves the lives of students by providing pathways to greater social participation, employment, further study and training.

VOLUNTEER TUTOR PROGRAM (VTP) The Volunteer Tutor  Program engages volunteers to provide English language tuition and practice for 1-2 hours per week to migrants and refugees who are eligible for the AMEP. The one-to-one lessons will be conducted via SKYPE - to reach migrants and refugees who may be located in remote regional areas. TAFE NSW recruits, trains and matches tutors to students.

Training to be an AMEP Volunteer Tutor Skype Volunteer Tutors will be trained using an online resource A Course in Volunteer English Language Tutoring. The training course is designed to be the equivalent of a minimum of 15 hours face to face.

VOLUNTEER TUTOR SESSIONS AMEP students are entitled to 1-2 hours per week of Volunteer Tutor Program support as part of their AMEP entitlement. The weekly SKYPE session time will be negotiated between the Volunteer Tutor and the student.

ONGOING TRAINING AND SUPPORT The Volunteer Tutor Program Coordinator will support volunteer tutors through regular communication and providing training updates. TAFE values all volunteer tutors’ contribution to the program, we will continue to assist and support you with your work as a Volunteer Tutor.
