The Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Victoria) is a non-government, community-based charity that works to prevent cruelty to animals by actively promoting their care and protection.  RSPCA Victoria was established in Melbourne in 1871. Since this time, the RSPCA has become Australia’s leading animal welfare charity.Volunteers are an integral part of the RSPCA team. They play an active and vital role in helping to support our work to improve the welfare of animals and protect them from cruelty and neglect. Role Purpose

RSPCA Victoria Op Shops are entirely volunteer operated, providing much needed funds to support RSPCA Victoria achieve our vision of “ending cruelty to all animals”.  The Op Shop Network also plays a visible role in the wider community as the “face” of RSPCA Victoria.

The Role of Op Shop Team Leader exists to ensure successful Op Shop operations at a local level in line with RSPCA Victoria policies, processes and values.

This role requires excellent people skills to lead and guide a team of volunteers, the ability to work independently and meet RSPCA Victoria expectations around reporting.  Whilst the Team Leader is responsible for the day to day operations of the Op Shop, you will be supported by the Op Shop Support Team and the wider resources of RSPCA Victoria.

Key Responsibilities

The Volunteer Team Leader’s duties may include:

  • Leading a team of volunteers in the Op Shop, creating a positive culture in the Op Shop, including motivating, training and supporting the volunteers and working with the Op Shop Support Team to identify and raise issues appropriately including customer service complaints and issues if they arise
  • Delegation of daily tasks to rostered volunteers, ensuring smooth store operations
  • Ensuring the Op Shop can trade according to its determined opening hours by communicating shift allocations to the team and advising Op Shop Support Team of any rostering issues or concerns
  • Working with RSPCA Victoria staff to support volunteer recruitment at a local level as directed
  • Implementing the Op Shop Operational Manual and guidelines and ensuring the Op Shop operates in accordance with RSPCA Victoria policies and procedures, including financial and Workplace Health & Safety
  • Ensuring financial paperwork (daily takings, banking and weekly reports) are completed accurately, on time and mailed/processed accordingly
  • Submitting reports to the Op Shop Network Coordinator, including weekly sales figures, volunteer on boarding and exiting, Op Shop initiatives & opportunities
  • Working with the Op Shop Support Team regarding continuous improvement, campaigns and implementing new policies and procedures
  • Supporting open and effective communication between the Op Shop and RSPCA Victoria by ensuring organisational information is displayed in store or provided to your team via holding regular team meetings or team communication books.
