Volunteer Community Parent (Save the Children)

During the visit the Community Volunteer observes the general health and wellbeing of the child and parents(s) and other siblings. They are also required to assess the environment, be responsive to the needs of the family and be alert to any opportunities for providing the family with educational resource material

Duties:

  • Complete a 5 week preparation course
  • Visit weekly a family with children up to five years of age, to work along side them and support them in their parenting role
  • Complete Visit Record Sheet for all interactions with the family
  • Attend regular team meetings with the Coordinator

Experience:

  • Personal experience raising and / or working with children and families
  • Warm, caring attitude with good

Responsibilities: With supervision and support from the Coordinator, a Community Parent will:

  • Show willingness to work within the bounds of the program and meet all requirements set by the organisation (e.g. Volunteer training & supervision)
  • Offer support (non-directive, affirming, listening) and when requested, information to parents to reinforce appropriate parenting skills
  • Use a Strengths Based Approach
  • Accept and value cultural / religious diversity
  • Identify additional needs and /or concerns & raise these with the Coordinator for advice for case management and appropriate referral to another service
  • Take every opportunity to inform the parents(s) about the parent(s) about the range of services that are available to them.
  • Adhere to the Philosophy and principles of Save the Children & Volunteer Family Connect
  • Abide by all organisational policies procedures
  • Maintain and keep accurate records including completing a Visit Record Sheet for all the interactions with the family
  • Attend in subsequent team meetings

Requirements: ·        Working with Children’s Check ·        Fit2Work Police Check ·        2 Referee Checks ·        Must commit to the program for a minimum of 6 months
