Logo for Scouts Tasmania

Do you enjoy watching kids learn practical skills while discovering the beauty and wonder in their natural environment?

Do you love children but are concerned by the effect of too much 'screen time' on their development and social skills?

Old Beach Scouts are looking for a volunteer Assistant Leaders to join their Cub Scout Pack (8 - 10 years).

Old Beach Scouts needs volunteers who are prepared to be reliable, attentive, cheerful and have a can-do attitude - as this is the role model we want for the children. Please note you do not have to have your own children to be good at this! This role would also be perfect for anyone working or seeking work in an education or environmental education setting.

============================= What does a ASSISTANT CUB LEADER do?

Cub Scouts are aged 8-11 years - this is the second section of the Scouting journey.

The Cub Scout program nurtures a deeper understanding of the world around them, and helps kids develop a sense of achievement by doing things for themselves. Cubs do activities which earn them badges themed around health, safety, first aid, outdoor skills, science, the natural environment, community volunteering, among others.

An Assistant Cub Leader will help their experienced Leaders plan and deliver fun, age-appropriate crafts, games and imaginative play during a weekly 1.5 hour session. There are also opportunities to join the younger Joeys (5-7yrs) for Community Service activities such as helping out with 'Dining With Friends' once a term; and a once-a-year 'group camp' (overnights optional) with all sections of Old Beach.

This role is most suited to someone who is comfortable with (sometimes) noisy kids having fun, enjoys making stuff (it doesn't have to be perfect!), and has a huge heart for kids.

The more the merrier, so this is a volunteer role you could do with a friend. Approximately two hours a week volunteering during term times - one and a half hours running the program, approximately thirty minutes (sometimes less) for set-up, pack-up and planning time with your Leader.

Training is provided, both online (own pace) and over two weekends.

You can not apply for this role as it is no longer available.
