Dog walkers help care for pets whose owners have a terminal illness

Dogs bring joy and their own special brand of beauty into a home. They are a key support for many people - but many people with terminal illness find they are too tired to be able to care for their dog in the way they used to.

That's where EPC's Palliative Paws program can help. Our volunteers visit clients in their home, once a week, to walk their dog - relieving stress and helping clients to stay at home with their pets for as long as possible - and keeping dogs healthy and enriched.

One of our clients told us: "I think this program is marvelous! I have been unable to walk Suzy for months and she has become as housebound as me".

Both our clients and volunteers absolutely love this service. EPC highly values its 200 +volunteers and offers extensive training, mentoring and support as well as regular opportunities to meet with other volunteers, hear guest speakers and train in other roles depending on your interest.

EPC is Victoria's largest community palliative care provider, and we offer a wide range of free services to people with terminal or life-limiting illness, living in Boroondara, Manningham, Whitehorse, Monash, Knox, Maroondah and Yarra Ranges.

NOTE: You MUST live in one of the above areas to volunteer with us. Our volunteers live right across this region and make an enormous difference to people in the community who are experiencing what can be a very difficult time.
