Do You have Complex Trauma Disorder? (otherwise known as Borderline Personality Disorder) or do you experience...

  • Relationships that are intense and unstable?
  • Times of intense anger or difficulty controlling your anger?
  • A changeable sense of self?
  • Feelings of emptiness? Are you 18-65 years old? Are you willing to participate in clinical research? We are running a 12-week trial to investigate a novel treatment for these symptoms.

Complex Trauma Disorder (CTD), often termed Borderline Personality Disorder, is a prevalent and complex mental illness. Medications currently used for CTD have only modest and with inconsistent effects. We are testing a novel medication, which we know from previous research to be safe and well-tolerated, for its efficacy in improving CTD symptoms.

Men and women who are 18-65 years old, experience symptoms of complex trauma disorder, and are stabilised on current therapy (if on any) for at least 4 weeks, are invited to take part in a 12-week study that is underway in Melbourne at the Monash Alfred Psychiatry Research Centre.

Participants will be randomly selected to receive daily either 1) 20mg of study medication, or 2) inactive placebo. Participants will meet with the research team every 2 weeks (or via telephone call) and will complete questionnaires and computerised tasks to assess symptoms, attention, and thinking skills. Following completion of the trial, participants will meet with the Chief Investigator, Professor Jayashri Kulkarni, to discuss their results and any further treatment recommendation.
