Conservation Volunteers Australia (World Wetland Day Turrella Reserve)
Volunteer NetworkWorld Wetland Day @ Turrella Reserve - World Wetland Day is an annual event held on the 2nd Feb each year WORLDWIDE to help raise global awareness of the value wetlands provide to humanity and the importance of protecting them. In 2018 there is a focus on Sustainable Urban Future, emphasising the critical role of wetlands in making cities liveable, Sydney included! Wetlands provide benefits such as; flood control, water supply, waste treatment, green space and livelihoods. In keeping with the Sustainable Urban Future theme, this year we will be working in the Turrella Reserve along Wolli Creek to help increase the biodiversity of the area and help restore the important wildlife habitat corridor which will help encourage native species to return to the area and thrive. Included in these native species is the under threat Eastern Long-necked Turtle that lives in these waters. Please wear sturdy shoes/boots, long pants, and long sleeve shirts. Hats, sunscreen, and water are a must. Team size varies from 3-10 volunteers, with a free pick up and drop off from Central Station available.
A fully qualified supervisor will be there at all times to assist you in your conservation efforts as well as providing you with their extensive local knowledge.
