Tutors or Convenors
U3A HawthornThe Boroondara Volunteer Resource Centre is advertising this role on behalf of U3A Hawthorn.
U3A Hawthorn is seeking volunteer tutors/convenors to lead or facilitate courses or activities for people aged over 55 years. The courses/activities are during the day and maybe: once a week, fortnightly or monthly from February to November, single session activities or short courses. Examples include two to ten sessions weekly for approximately 1-1.5 hours in length.
Skills or experience:
- You may be a current or former professional or an enthusiastic amateur wishing to share your interests, expertise or experience.
- Interest in interacting with people over 55 ( many of whom are over 75 years)
- Ability to communicate effectively with others and present courses or activities
About the role: Volunteers will design and deliver content. We have a number of different course or activities that are sought:
- Language tutors: Beginners Italian and Beginners Spanish, Italian Conversation. The tutor might be a current or former teacher or native speaker of the language.
Language and culture short courses for travelers: eg 8 week course that includes basic phrases for travellers, customs, culture and what to see. The tutor might be a current or former teacher or native speaker of the language or experienced traveller to the destination.
Exercise for older people: (the volunteer might be a student, experienced practitioner or former practitioner. Classes may include:
- Yoga
- Pilates
- Gentle exercise
- Cycling ( someone who knows the bike paths and can lead a group of riders)
- Line dancing
Computer courses: (U3A have access to a computer lab at Swinburne equipped with 12 desktop computers.) Possible courses:
- Basic website design
- Introduction to Android tablets
- Introduction to IPad
- Managing your computer to meet your needs
- Managing your photos on the computer
- Windows 10 familiarisation
Single session presentation or short course on topics such as:
- Biographies
- Business/economics
- Creative writing
- Current affairs
- Genealogy
- History
- Investment stimulations
- Medicine/health
- Science
