Companion Shopping - Assist an elderly Client with their Shopping!
Lower North Shore Community VolunteersVolunteers are partnered with an elderly client who needs a little additional support whilst being out shopping. Volunteers collect their client from home (access to car and comprehensive car insurance required), drive them to & from the shops, and assist them whilst at the shops – eg paying bills, carrying items, chatting with them, perhaps stopping for a coffee.
Most clients just need a bit of extra support and the confidence of having someone with them whilst they are out and about. For our more isolated clients this is also a very valuable source of social interaction. It’s also hugely enjoyed by volunteers as it offers the chance to get to know someone else well and assist them in a meaningful way.
The times & days that you volunteer will be decided on between you and the client, but will be weekdays during working hours (usually between 9-3) as this means that if there is an issue we can make sure there are staff available to help you. Volunteers volunteer on a regular basis, usually 2 hours a fortnight.
Covid-safe procedures are in place, but please note that this role will require you to transport a client to & from the shops, as well as to assist them at the shops.
Volunteers must be aged over 25.
