Our service aims to enable newly arrived migrant and humanitarian communities to become: self-reliant, to participate in the broader Australian community, to develop a shared purpose and, sense of identity and belonging. The service also aims to encourage the broader community to be responsive to the needs of emerging communities. Our Service supports clients by promoting economic and personal well-being and by empowering clients towards independence. We are funded by DSS under the Settlement Grants Program.

As a Volunteer, you will play an important role in helping to re-settle newly arrived families. Our service supports these families settle in our local community for their first five years. A long term commitment of 6 – 12 months+ is required Work with a team of Volunteers supporting Case Workers, linking families with social contact, being alert to their needs and offering the hand of friendship.

North Coast Settlement Service provides practical life skills assistance and support to enable clients to access services. Volunteers could also potentially assist with Community information sessions, developing communities and assist with youth settlement services.

Volunteers need to be flexible, friendly, reliable and sensitive to cross-cultural issues: be non-judgmental, approachable and trustworthy.

Volunteer Support: we aim to empower volunteer support workers with the skills to assist clients to identify and access relevant services. We recruit and train volunteers to ensure a high standard of assistance for clients and also provide a supportive environment to all volunteers.

You will be supported by the Service Manager, case workers and experienced volunteers.

You will experience the diversity and richness of other cultures and have the rewarding experience of assisting families and individuals gain independence in a new country
