YOU COULD MAKE A REAL DIFFERENCE (Northern suburbs)
Citizen AdvocacyCitizen Advocacy offers unique voluntary roles. Unlike other roles where you must commit to a particular time and day of the week, as a citizen advocate you have flexibility. You don’t volunteer to our organisation as such. We’re simply “match makers.”
We offer potential advocates an orientation, then introduce you to a fellow community member with intellectual disability who would benefit from a citizen advocate in their life. We remain in the background for any information or support you may require, but from then on, it’s your call.
The role of the office is to identify individuals with intellectual disability without involved family able to help them – perhaps only paid support in their lives. We then carefully match them with a volunteer citizen advocate in terms of location, time availability, interests, etc. Each role is different but may include being spokesperson, friend, role model, ally or mentor, enabling the individual with disability to achieve goals, reach their potential, expand their horizons and have fun.
If this is a role you feel you’d like to weave into your busy life, then get in touch to find out more. (We won’t put any pressure on you!) Find out how YOU can change the world (for one person.)
Due to the intended long term nature of our positions, we are unable to recruit to provide for course credits or Centrelink requirements.
