IT Coordinator (Volunteer)

No More Butts

Logo for No More Butts

No More Butts is seeking a volunteer IT Coordinator to support the day-to-day administration, security and continuity of our digital systems, with a primary focus on Microsoft 365.

This is a practical systems administration and coordination role rather than a conventional IT helpdesk or hardware-support position. No More Butts operates remotely and does not maintain an office-based IT environment. The role is primarily about ensuring volunteers have appropriate access to the systems they need, accounts and licences are properly managed, and routine IT administration does not unnecessarily fall to the Executive Director.

Key duties

  • Administer No More Butts' Microsoft 365 environment, including user accounts, licences and access
  • Create, update and deactivate accounts as volunteers join, change roles or leave the organisation
  • Manage Microsoft 365 licences and identify when additional licences or changes are required
  • Assist with password resets, account recovery and multi-factor authentication
  • Manage access to Microsoft 365 resources including Teams, SharePoint and OneDrive
  • Support the IT aspects of volunteer onboarding and offboarding
  • Maintain a current record of organisational accounts, licences, key systems and relevant administrative access
  • Provide first-line assistance with routine Microsoft 365 and account-access issues
  • Troubleshoot straightforward technical or configuration issues and escalate matters requiring specialist support
  • Liaise with Microsoft, service providers or other technical support providers when required
  • Identify and escalate potential digital security or access issues
  • Help ensure important organisational systems and administrative access are not dependent on a single individual
  • Recommend improvements to the reliability, security or efficiency of No More Butts' digital systems

The role works across the organisation and reports to the Executive Director. It does not have responsibility for marketing, website content, CRM, EDMs or social media. Website domains and website-specific administration sit with the Web Manager, while the IT Coordinator may assist where organisational account or access administration is required.

Skills and experience

We are looking for someone who is confident working with digital systems and can take ownership of routine IT administration.

Useful skills and experience include:

  • Experience administering Microsoft 365 or similar cloud-based organisational systems
  • Familiarity with user accounts, licences, permissions, authentication and multi-factor authentication
  • Ability to troubleshoot routine technical and access issues logically and independently
  • Understanding of basic digital security and access-control principles
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to document systems and processes clearly
  • Good communication skills and the ability to support volunteers with varying levels of technical confidence
  • The judgement to recognise when an issue requires specialist support or escalation
  • A high level of confidentiality, discretion and integrity

Formal IT qualifications are not required. Practical experience with Microsoft 365 administration or similar systems is more important.

About No More Butts

No More Butts is an Australian environmental charity working to eliminate cigarette butt litter and reduce tobacco-related pollution.

Founded in Queensland, No More Butts works across community engagement, research, advocacy, policy and public education. Our work extends nationally and internationally, including engagement with governments, researchers, environmental organisations and international policy processes.

We are a largely volunteer-led organisation and operate remotely, using cloud-based systems to support our work across Australia and internationally.

Volunteering with us

All No More Butts volunteers give their time generously and flexibly around their other commitments, such as work and family. We aim to give volunteers meaningful responsibility within clearly defined roles, while providing the support and organisational context needed to contribute effectively.

This role would suit someone who enjoys making digital systems work properly behind the scenes and wants to use their skills to support an environmental organisation.

Next steps for your application

When you apply, you will be asked to provide:

  • A brief outline of your relevant IT or Microsoft 365 experience
  • Examples of experience administering user accounts, licences, permissions or cloud-based systems
  • Why you are interested in volunteering with No More Butts
  • Your general availability and preferred level of involvement

Shortlisted applicants may be invited to have an informal conversation about the role, No More Butts' systems and the scope of the position.
