Volunteer Curriculum & Education Content Developer

Rethink Australia Foundation Ltd is a youth-led environmental organisation helping schools and students reduce waste through education, technology and practical action.

As Rethink Australia grows, we are seeking a knowledgeable and creative Volunteer Curriculum & Education Content Developer to help develop engaging, practical and curriculum-linked learning resources for schools and students.

This role will translate environmental topics and Rethink Australia’s programs into clear educational materials that teachers and students can use. Resources may support workshops, classroom activities, student leadership initiatives, interschool challenges and technology-enabled waste education.

Key responsibilities

• Research relevant curriculum outcomes and educational approaches
• Develop lesson plans, workshop materials and student activities
• Create teacher guides, worksheets, discussion prompts and supporting resources
• Translate sustainability, waste and behavioural concepts into age-appropriate content
• Help connect Rethink Australia’s programs with classroom learning
• Develop content for student leadership and interschool sustainability activities
• Adapt materials for different age groups, formats and learning contexts
• Ensure resources are clear, practical, inclusive and engaging
• Review educational content for accuracy, structure and readability
• Collaborate with school programs, content, design and technology volunteers
• Incorporate feedback from educators and organisational representatives
• Maintain organised source files, references and version records
• Support the development of a consistent educational resource library

About you

We welcome applications from teachers, education students, curriculum specialists, instructional designers and others with relevant experience or interest.

Relevant backgrounds may include:

• Primary or secondary education
• Curriculum development
• Instructional design
• Environmental or sustainability education
• Science, geography or technology education
• Learning resource development
• Youth programs or student leadership
• Educational writing and editing

The successful applicant will have strong research and written communication skills, sound educational judgement and the ability to explain ideas clearly for students and teachers.

Applicants should be comfortable working from a brief, checking facts, responding to feedback and meeting agreed deadlines. Familiarity with Australian school curriculum frameworks is highly regarded.

Previous professional experience is highly regarded but not essential. Pre-service teachers, recent graduates, emerging education professionals and experienced educators are encouraged to apply.

Relationship to other roles

The Curriculum & Education Content Developer will focus on the educational structure and learning value of school resources. Content writers may assist with general copy, graphic designers may prepare finished materials, and school program volunteers may support implementation and feedback.

All resources will be reviewed and approved by Rethink Australia before external use. The volunteer must not distribute draft materials or make unapproved curriculum, partnership or impact claims.

Location and commitment

The role is online or remote friendly. Approximately three to five hours per month is anticipated for an initial period of up to six months. Work is flexible, with briefs, milestones and deadlines agreed in advance.
