Rethink Australia Foundation Ltd is a youth-led environmental organisation empowering students and schools to drive sustainability through education, technology and community action.
Our work brings together environmental education, student leadership, technology-enabled solutions and partnerships to create meaningful and measurable change.
As Rethink Australia grows, we are seeking a capable and enthusiastic Volunteer Content Writer to help communicate our work through articles, newsletters, website content and organisational updates.
This is a practical communications role offering opportunities to research, write and contribute to content intended for publication. The volunteer will receive briefs, background information, editorial guidance and constructive feedback.
Key responsibilities
• Research and draft blog articles about sustainability, education, technology, student leadership and Rethink Australia’s work
• Prepare content for email newsletters and organisational updates
• Write and edit website copy, program descriptions and stakeholder-facing content
• Develop stories about programs, volunteers, partnerships and organisational developments
• Interview team members or stakeholders where appropriate and transform information into clear written content
• Adapt longer content for professional platforms such as LinkedIn and email
• Proofread and edit existing materials for clarity, grammar, tone and consistency
• Help maintain a forward content and editorial calendar
• Work from approved briefs, background materials and organisational messaging
• Incorporate feedback and prepare content for final approval and publication
About you
We welcome applications from experienced writers as well as emerging writers seeking meaningful experience and published work.

The successful applicant will have strong written communication and research skills, excellent attention to detail and the ability to explain ideas clearly for different audiences.
Applicants should be comfortable working from a brief, meeting agreed deadlines, responding to editorial feedback and checking facts before submitting content.
Previous professional experience is highly regarded but not essential. University students, recent graduates, emerging writers and experienced communications professionals are encouraged to apply.

Your contribution will help Rethink Australia communicate more consistently with schools, volunteers, supporters, prospective partners and the wider community.
The role is fully remote and flexible around professional or study commitments. Approximately two to four hours per month is anticipated for an initial period of up to six months.
Content review
All content will be reviewed and approved by Rethink Australia before publication. The volunteer must not publish organisational information, partner details, impact claims, images or other materials without prior approval.
