Help Older Adults Build Digital Confidence

Commitment: Weekdays (Every Tuesday from 12.30 PM - 1.45 PM)

Volunteer Role: Computer & Mobile Phone Tutor

About CCA NSW

CCA NSW Ltd is a not-for-profit community organisation dedicated to supporting older adults, families, and people from diverse cultural backgrounds to live connected, independent, and fulfilling lives. Through our community programs, we help people develop skills, build confidence, and stay socially connected.

As technology becomes an essential part of everyday life, many older adults need support to confidently use computers, smartphones, and online services. We are seeking friendly and patient volunteers to help bridge the digital divide and empower seniors with practical digital skills.

About the Role

As a Computer & Mobile Phone Tutor, you will work with older community members in a relaxed and supportive environment, helping them build confidence using digital devices and technology.

You don't need to be a professional teacher—just someone who enjoys helping others and can explain technology in a simple and encouraging way.

Key Responsibilities

• Teach basic computer and smartphone skills to older adults.

• Assist participants with using Android or iPhone devices, tablets, and laptops.

• Help with sending emails, browsing the internet, and searching for information.

• Support participants to use everyday apps such as messaging, video calls, calendars, and maps.

• Assist with accessing online services such as MyGov, Medicare, banking (general guidance only), transport apps, and community resources.

• Explain online safety, password security, scam awareness, and privacy in an easy-to-understand way.

• Encourage participants to practise new skills and build confidence at their own pace.

• Create a welcoming, respectful, and inclusive learning environment.

Skills and Experience

We are looking for volunteers who:

• Have good computer and smartphone skills.

• Are confident using common digital applications and the internet.

• Are patient, friendly, and enjoy helping older people learn.

• Have good communication and interpersonal skills.

• Can explain technology in a clear and easy-to-understand manner.

• Are reliable and committed to supporting the community.

Previous teaching or tutoring experience is welcome but not essential.

Benefits of Volunteering

By joining CCA NSW, you will:

• Help reduce digital isolation among older adults.

• Make a meaningful difference in the lives of seniors.

• Share valuable life and technology skills with your community.

• Meet people from diverse backgrounds.

• Gain rewarding volunteer experience with a respected community organisation.

• Be part of a friendly and supportive volunteer team.

The Difference You'll Make

Many older adults feel left behind as services increasingly move online. By sharing your digital knowledge, you'll help seniors stay connected with family and friends, confidently access essential services, manage everyday tasks, and participate more independently in today's digital world.

Your support will improve confidence, reduce social isolation, and empower people to remain active and connected members of the community.
