Assistance is required to monitor exhibition space and exhibits, including keeping the exhibition operational and secure, and talking to visitors.
Duties will include: Greeting visitors, including school and community groups, providing information and answering questions about the exhibitions and the Female Orphan School.
Optional: volunteers can also offer short guided tours of building for small groups and/or individuals.
Training Induction training, which includes information about the historic site and a tour of the building and exhibitions. Also covered will be work health and safety issues, security and emergency procedures, procedures and general information. Tour guide training is also provided for volunteers interested in guiding visitors (not essential). Training occurs on an ad hoc basis as required.
Benefits: You will learn about the history of the building and have the opportunity to share your knowledge with members of the public and you will receive special invitations to Whitlam Institute events. You will be invited to get to know other volunteers at social/training events.

The Female Orphan School is recognised as being the oldest three-storey brick building in Australia, predating even Hyde Park Barracks. The Female Orphan School re-opened in 2013 as a public exhibition space, cultural, educational and intellectual hub and permanent home for the Whitlam Institute and the Whitlam Prime Ministerial Collection.
