Friends of Ethel Turner Society Incorporated (FOETS) celebrates a unique pocket of local history in Killara — from its built heritage (Victorian and Federation architecture), with Woodlands being the oldest existing home in Killara, to honouring the life and legacy of the remarkable Australian author Ethel Turner, best known for the ground-breaking children’s classic Seven Little Australians.

About the Role

FOETS is seeking an organised and proactive volunteer to assist with the coordination of an upcoming heritage and literary event. This role involves supporting the planning and delivery of the program and liaising with various event contributors. This is a meaningful opportunity for someone interested in heritage, literature and community engagement to contribute to the successful delivery of a culturally significant event.

The Assistant Event Planner will:

• Support coordination of event logistics

• Liaise with guest speakers and participants (including dignitaries and invited presenters)

• Assist in scheduling and program flow on the day

• Coordinate with volunteers to ensure smooth operations

• Liaise with external service providers (e.g. coffee van)

• Provide general organisational support in preparation for the event

About you

• 18 years and over

• Strong organisational and communication skills

• Flexible and reliable

• Basic digital literacy, including confidence using email, online registration tools and social media platforms

• Interested in heritage, literature or community initiatives

Time Commitment

• Short-term role focused on the upcoming event – 2026 Ku-ring-gai Heritage Festival (18 April - 19 May).

• Planning support in the lead-up period

• Attendance on event day

The Society is a volunteer-led incorporated association and welcomes individuals interested in supporting its ongoing governance and community engagement activities beyond the upcoming event.
