Emerging Curator - Multicultural Museum Development

Lifestyle Markets Australia Inc.

Lifestyle Markets Australia Inc. is a registered charity and not-for-profit organisation that delivers vibrant, multicultural markets, festivals, and community events across Victoria. Our events celebrate diversity and creativity, bringing together local makers, small businesses, food vendors, and communities in inclusive, welcoming spaces. Through this work, Lifestyle Markets Australia supports the broader charitable mission of Kinds of Happiness, including its focus on improving wellbeing and opportunities for disadvantaged young people.

We welcome applicants from all backgrounds and levels of experience. Lifestyle Markets Australia is a supportive learning environment, and we provide volunteers with guidance, training, and opportunities to grow in their chosen field.

About the Role This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the early development of a proposed multicultural museum and gain practical experience in cultural heritage, community engagement, and project development.

Working within a small team and community subcommittee, you will support the development of the museum from the ground up. The role involves researching how museums are established and operate, liaising with other museums and cultural organisations to learn best practice, and engaging with community groups to support the development of collections and partnerships.

You will also assist with early planning activities, including liaising with local councils and stakeholders to understand compliance and permit requirements, identifying potential grant and funding opportunities, and supporting communication and promotion within the community. This role is well-suited to someone with an interest in history, culture, and multicultural storytelling who is keen to learn and grow in an emerging project environment.

Essential Criteria • Strong interest in history, culture, and multicultural storytelling • Interest in museums, cultural heritage, or community-based projects • Well-developed communication skills, with the ability to liaise respectfully with diverse communities and organisations • Strong organisational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks • Willingness to learn, research, and develop new skills in an emerging project environment • Ability to work collaboratively within a small team and community-led setting

Desirable Skills • Experience or interest in project development, research, or community engagement • Familiarity with not-for-profit, volunteer, or community organisations • Experience with grant research or funding applications • Interest or experience in audio, digital storytelling, or media production (e.g. audio recording, editing, or content creation) • Interest in museum interpretation, exhibitions, or visitor experience (including audio tours) • Experience working with multicultural or culturally diverse communities
