Constance ARI (Artist Run Initiative) is a small and thriving art organisation based in Nipaluna / Hobart. We create paid artistic opportunities for early career arts practitioners to develop and present innovative and experimental work in varied settings.
We would be thrilled to have a Treasurer on board, who may be in the position of contributing to our small team of early-mid career artists and arts workers, by overseeing the organisation’s:
- Financial administration and procedures (including planning and budgeting, financial record keeping and monitoring and reporting).
- Advising the Board on financial strategy and fundraising.
The work may run for 1 week day/fortnight (flexible).
Additional time may be required initially for overdue acquittal, registration of Constance's Payroller account for STP with the ATO, and submit all super payments made to date.
- Objective
To assist the Board in maintaining high standards of financial record keeping, policy implementation and communication in support of Constance ARI’s programs and operation.
- Key Duties
- Establish and/or abide by sound financial management policies, procedures and reporting processes.
- Remain fully informed of Constance ARI’s financial performance and position at all times.
- Prepare yearly and multi-yearly budgets in consultation with the Board.
- Monitor income and expenditure for all Board and program activities and maintain budgetary restraints.
- Review and approve invoices, credit notes and receipts for timely payment or issue.
- Arrange for financial audits with Constance ARI’s appointed auditor and coordinate the preparation of required documents and data.
- Ensure the Board understands its financial obligations and that the organisation complies with relevant laws and legislation.
- Report on Constance ARI’s financial performance and position at Board meetings and present an annual financial report at the AGM.
- Oversee the acquittal of grant funds and act as a signing officer for Constance ARI where appropriate.
- Advise the Board on financial strategy, planning and management.
- Other duties or responsibilities as outlined in the constitution.
In addition, the Treasurer takes ultimate responsibility for and oversight of the following tasks which may be delegated to a contracted bookkeeper and/or to a member of a Finance Committee:

Lodge returns and reports such as BAS and STP to the Australian Tax Office.

Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial accounts and records, producing financial statements as required.

Keep a proper record of all payments and monies received.

Show evidence that money received is receipted, banked and documented with all monies paid out.

Pay bills and send out accounts as and when they fall due.

Maintain the integrity, security and sustainability of the financial management system.

- Knowledge and experience

A basic understanding of accounting and a working knowledge of the laws governing Constance ARI’s operation.

Ability to provide and present financial statements and relate the organisation’s financial position, including future forecasts.

Ability to provide relevant financial information and make decisions on the allocation of Constance ARI’s financial resources in negotiation with the Board.

Ability to keep accurate records and maintain an electronic financial management system.

Ability to ensure that budgeting is carried out in accordance with Constance ARI’s strategic and operational plans.

Awareness of the information required for regular audits Good working knowledge of the tasks and constitutional requirements of the Treasurer position.

Ability and readiness to allocate tasks and standards of cash management as appropriate to others, such as Board members, Finance Committee members and Project Coordinators.
