Make a lasting impact on the lives of vulnerable children across Queensland.

The Kids Matters Community Foundation is a Brisbane-based not-for-profit organisation dedicated to bridging the gap for vulnerable children. Our mission is to ensure every child has the chance to thrive. We provide guidance and fund essential assessments and supports for low-income families whose children face developmental, learning, or behavioural challenges. As our reach continues to expand across Queensland, including rural and remote communities where access to paediatric services is even more limited, we are seeking a dedicated and values-driven Director to join our Board.

This is a remarkable opportunity to help shape the strategic direction of a growing organisation committed to creating brighter futures for every child.

About the Role As a Board Director, you will contribute to the strategic leadership, governance, and long-term sustainability of the Foundation. Working collaboratively with fellow Directors, you will help guide the organisation’s mission, strengthen community impact, and ensure we continue to serve children and families with compassion, integrity, and purpose.

Governance and Strategy • Participate in Board meetings, strategic planning sessions, and committee work. • Contribute to policy development, organisational oversight, and risk management. • Ensure compliance with ACNC governance standards and relevant legislation. • Support the development and monitoring of the Strategic Plan and community impact goals.

Financial and Business Oversight • Assist in ensuring strong financial stewardship and accountability. • Provide input into fundraising, sponsorship, and grant strategies. • Review and interpret financial reports to guide decision-making. Marketing and Stakeholder Engagement • Use your professional networks and marketing expertise to strengthen brand visibility. • Support fundraising campaigns, events, and donor engagement activities. • Advocate for the Foundation’s mission across community, corporate, and government sectors.

Community and Health Partnerships • Offer insight into the healthcare or community services sector to inform programs and outreach. • Build and strengthen partnerships with allied health professionals and community stakeholders. • Champion equitable access to paediatric and family supports across Queensland.

Board Contribution • Participate actively and constructively in Board discussions and decisions. • Uphold the principles of integrity, confidentiality, and professionalism. • Engage in annual evaluations, governance training, and Board development opportunities.

Key Selection Criteria

  1. Experience serving on a Board or Committee, with sound understanding of governance and fiduciary duties.
  2. Strong business and financial literacy.
  3. Marketing, communication, or public relations expertise to support outreach and fundraising.
  4. Knowledge of the healthcare or community services sector—particularly child development, allied health, or rural health.
  5. Strategic thinking ability and collaborative leadership style.
  6. Demonstrated commitment to compassion, inclusion, and empowering children and families.

Time Commitment • Approximately 10–12 Board meetings per year (virtual and/or in-person). • Attendance at community and fundraising events as an ambassador for the Foundation where possible.

Personal Attributes • Passion for improving outcomes for children and families. • Integrity, accountability, and ethical leadership. • Strategic, innovative, and forward-thinking mindset. • Collaborative, respectful, and confident communicator.
