Volunteer Treasurer – Babirra Music Theatre Inc. Babirra Music Theatre Inc. is a passionate community-based organisation dedicated to producing high-quality musical theatre. For 70 years, Babirra has been a cornerstone of Melbourne’s performing arts scene, creating opportunities for performers, creatives, and volunteers to share their talents. We are looking for a committed and proactive Treasurer to join our Committee of Management and play a vital role in ensuring our financial sustainability and governance.

Key Responsibilities:

    1. Prepare annual and production budgets in collaboration with creative teams.
    1. Maintain accurate financial records, including receipts, payments, and reconciliations.
    1. Collect membership and participation fees, and manage banking.
    1. Liaise with auditors and prepare statutory financial reports.
    1. Ensure compliance with taxation requirements (including BAS) and insurance renewals.
    1. Provide financial insights and recommendations to support strategic goals.
    1. Assist with fundraising and sponsorship initiatives by managing budgets and reporting outcomes.

Skills & Attributes:

  • Knowledge of bookkeeping and accounting principles; experience with financial software (e.g., Xero, MYOB, QuickBooks) preferred.
  • Understanding of not-for-profit compliance requirements (GST, ACNC, Consumer Affairs).
  • Strong organisational skills, attention to detail, and ability to communicate financial information clearly.
  • Honest, reliable, and proactive with a passion for community arts.

Time Commitment:

  • Approx. 1–2 hours per week, with additional time during production budgeting and reporting periods.
