Eyes of Hope needs volunteer Clinical Assistants (including Optical Dispensers) to help us continue to grow our newly established clinics that service homeless and vulnerable populations in the city of Sydney.

Your key responsibilities will include:

Patient Interaction: Greeting and interacting with patients in a friendly and respectful manner, ensuring they feel comfortable and valued.

Frame Selection Assistance: Helping patients choose appropriate frames based on their preferences and the specific requirements of their prescriptions.

Prescription Interpretation: Accurately reading and interpreting prescriptions provided by optometrists.

Lens Specification: Providing guidance on lens options, including single vision, bifocals, and progressive lenses.

Order Processing: Managing and processing orders for spectacles, ensuring accuracy in specifications and timely delivery.

Spectacle Fitting and Adjustment: Fitting and adjusting spectacles to ensure comfort and optimal vision for patients.

Record Keeping: Maintaining detailed records of patient prescriptions, orders, and any adjustments made.

Quality Control: Inspecting spectacles upon arrival to ensure they meet quality standards and are in accordance with the prescribed specifications.

Patient Education: Educating patients on the proper care and use of their spectacles.

Qualifications:

• Certification in Optical Dispensing, Vision Science, or a related field is preferred (not essential).
• Previous experience in an optical dispensing role, preferably in a clinical or charitable setting (not essential).
• Proficiency in using optical dispensing tools and software (not essential).
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, strong attention to detail.
• Compassionate, patient, and with a dedication and empathy towards serving marginalised communities.

Our clinics are staffed by a small team of volunteers (often Optometry and medical science students) who provide support in clinic operations, patient liasion, van driving, and clinic set up and pack down.
