Youth Work
Purpose of the Role
The Youth Work Volunteer supports the Oyster Tribe Aboriginal Corporation in creating a safe, positive, and culturally grounded environment for young people. Volunteers play a key role in assisting staff during youth activities, mentoring young people, and helping with community engagement and events.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Youth Patrol Bus team in engaging and supervising young people during patrol shifts.
- Assist with youth activities, workshops, and events at the Youth Hub or in the community.
- Help ensure the safety and wellbeing of all participants in line with child protection and organisational policies.
- Provide mentoring and positive role modelling to young people.
- Report any incidents, concerns, or observations to the Coordinator or Supervisor using the correct reporting forms.
- Assist with set-up, pack-down, and general duties to support the smooth delivery of programs.
- Respect confidentiality, cultural protocols, and the diverse backgrounds of participants.

- Friendly, reliable, and community-minded.
- Genuine interest in supporting Aboriginal young people and families.
- Good communication and listening skills.
- Ability to work as part of a team and follow direction.
- Understanding of confidentiality and boundaries when working with youth and community.

Remuneration / Incentives
- This is a voluntary position. While volunteers are not paid employees, Oyster Tribe values the time and contribution of our volunteers.
