Support Worker for inclusive activities

WheelEasy connects people to accessibility information through our unique, virtual mobility map, where users share, discover, and review accessible locations such as beaches, cafes, museums, restaurants, parks, and more. Together, we’re building a community committed to making life more inclusive for everyone.

WheelEasy is seeking a dedicated professional committed to inclusion and social justice. The role of the Support Worker is to assist a person with disability in a community day program activity. WheelEasy has developed a program that brings the local community together for a “Mapping Day Out” activity. This initiative involves planning, organising and assisting one participant from a group of diverse individuals with disabilities who require exclusive assistance with daily tasks. The Social Worker’s primary responsibility is to ensure that the person they are paired with has all necessary resources and support to participate fully in the activity. The event begins with a social gathering where WheelEasy introduces the organisation and explains its technology, a crowdsourced mobility map built from information collected by participants during these community days. After an overview of how crowdsourcing works, attendees are allocated specific areas in which they collect accessibility information. This involves taking photographs of urban spaces and drafting descriptions that explain the accessibility features of each location. The collected data is then uploaded to the WheelEasy website. Duties of the Social Worker include assisting their participant with food and snacks, supporting them to download and use the WheelEasy app, and accompanying them in the allocated area to gather information. The Social Worker will also help the participant to collect accessibility details and upload them to the WheelEasy website.
