Volunteer Nurse
Volunteer Patient Support Assistant (Virtual – National Role)
Organisation: Sjögren’s Australia
Detailed Description Sjögren’s Australia is seeking compassionate volunteers with nursing experience to provide support to individuals navigating the often complex journey of Sjögren’s disease — from seeking a diagnosis to managing ongoing treatment. This is a virtual role conducted from home, offering flexibility and the chance to make a meaningful difference in people’s lives.
You will be guided and supported by our Head Nurse, working as part of a small, friendly team dedicated to improving the lives of Australians affected by this chronic autoimmune condition.

Offer practical guidance on managing symptoms and navigating the healthcare system (under the supervision of the Head Nurse).
Direct patients to reputable information and resources provided by Sjögren’s Australia.
Support individuals emotionally during their diagnosis journey and help them feel heard and understood.
Record interactions confidentially and report any concerns or trends to the Head Nurse.
Skills and Experience
A background or strong interest in nursing, allied health, counselling, or community support.
Excellent communication and listening skills, with a high level of empathy and professionalism.
Confidence working virtually (via Zoom, Teams, or email).
An understanding of patient confidentiality and boundaries.
Prior experience with chronic illness support or peer mentoring is desirable but not essential — full guidance will be provided.
