Purpose

Support the mission of Guide Dogs NSW/ACT to break the boundaries that limit people with low vision or blindness.

Role Overview

As an Assistant Receptionist, you will provide a welcoming first point of contact for visitors to our Newcastle office and Low Vision Clinic. Your support ensures the smooth operation of daily office functions and contributes directly to the positive experience of clients, staff, and community members.

We're looking for at least two volunteers to share this role.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Greet and welcome visitors to the Newcastle office and Low Vision Clinic.
  • Advise staff of visitor arrivals.
  • Manage visitor sign-in and sign-out processes.
  • Maintain meeting rooms (morning and afternoon).
  • Restock kitchen supplies.
  • Assist with booking couriers and postage.
  • Provide support to the Client Services Administration Officer as required.
  • Complete ad-hoc administrative tasks (e.g., restocking printer paper, collateral stocktake).
  • Assist with the care and coordination of the office ambassador dog.

Required Experience and Skills

  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Basic administration skills, including Outlook, Excel, and Word.

Additional Accountabilities

Comply with Guide Dogs NSW/ACT Workplace Health & Safety (WHS) policy, procedures, and safe work practices.

Time Commitment

We’re seeking volunteers who can commit to a regular alternating schedule:

Week 1 & 3: Wednesday and Thursday (11am–3pm) Week 2 & 4: Monday and Tuesday (11am–3pm)
