Lead the Creation of Australia’s First National Network for Off-the-Track Racehorse Welfare

Join the founding board of the Off-the-Track Alliance (OTTA), Australia’s first national nonprofit dedicated to the lifelong welfare of both Thoroughbred and Standardbred racehorses. As we launch, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping our vision, strategy, and organisational foundations. This is a unique opportunity to help build a connected, informed, and supported community for off-the-track horses and owners nationwide. 

ABOUT US

Australia’s first national nonprofit dedicated to the lifelong welfare of Thoroughbred and Standardbred racehorses.

The Off-the-Track Alliance (OTTA) is laying the foundation for a coordinated, nationwide approach to aftercare welfare for Australia’s Thoroughbred and Standardbred racehorses. As the first nonprofit to unite this cause under a single banner, OTTA exists to reinforce established networks, open new pathways, and mobilise a national community around a shared commitment. OTTA’s strategy integrates national advocacy with regional engagement, supported by a custom digital platform. This infrastructure enables dynamic peer networks, real-time feedback, responsive education and social programming, and continuous evidence-informed progress. While many individuals and organisations are working to assist horses in the transition out of racing, OTTA builds on this foundation with a forward focus on sustainable, measurable long-term impact. By championing community-driven action alongside sector-wide collaboration, and optimising underutilised assets while minimising reliance on finite resources, OTTA is shaping a scalable model of support equipped to span the full arc of the post-racing journey. 

ABOUT YOU

We invite expressions of interest from individuals with relevant expertise or lived experience in areas such as: • Nonprofit governance, law, or finance • Technology and digital platforms • Communications and branding • Fundraising and partnerships • Community organisation and stakeholder engagement • Equine welfare, health, or education

Prior board experience is welcomed but not essential. We seek diverse perspectives and strong alignment with our values: • A deep commitment to equine welfare and ethical aftercare • Inclusivity and support for equestrians of all backgrounds • Strategic thinking and a collaborative spirit • Openness to innovation and adaptive problem-solving

THE OPPORTUNITY

As a founding board member, you’ll help steer OTTA’s formation and long-term direction by: • Attending and actively participating in quarterly meetings (virtual or in person) • Providing strategic guidance on governance, programs, partnerships and growth • Contributing to fundraising, outreach, and stakeholder engagement • Serving as an ambassador for OTTA’s mission
