Board Members

The Bower is an environmental charity with strong outreach into the social sector. Through our activities, we reduce waste and CO2 emissions, reduce our ecological footprint, and outreach to social causes by assisting members of the community who are vulnerable and disadvantaged. For over 20 years we have pioneered waste reduction through reclamation of household goods, reuse and repair initiatives such as workshops, repair cafes, bespoke recycled materials, and resale at affordable prices of repurposed and preloved goods.
We continue to expand the educational component of our work to new initiatives such as tiny house courses, online workshops and tutorials, online sales, and diversification of our portfolio of hands-on workshops to meet the increasing demand of the public. Our House to Home program outfits houses newly occupied by refugees, survivors of domestic violence, and those who were homeless.
We are particularly interested in meeting applicants who have skills and experience in one or more of:
- fundraising
- marketing
- retail
- community engagement
- legal practice
- IT and business systems
- not-for-profit and charity organisations
All board members are expected to:
- Attend all Board meetings (currently 6 a year)
- Keep abreast of developments at the Bower and engage with correspondence between meetings
- Participate in Board committees, particularly where aligned with their skills and experience
In your application please include your CV and a cover letter that explains why you are interested in volunteering on the board of the Bower, and how you would bring your skills and experience to the role.
