About the Don River Railway: The Don River Railway (DRR), operated by The Van Diemen Light Railway Society Inc., is a beloved heritage railway and a premier tourist attraction in Tasmania, dedicated to recreating living railway history. We are undergoing a significant transformation, focusing on addressing our "corporate immaturity" by building robust governance frameworks, formalising business processes, and developing a clear strategic plan. This work is essential for our long-term sustainability and growth.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a qualified and experienced Strategy & Policy Developer to volunteer their expertise in shaping DRR's foundational frameworks. This is a crucial strategic role for someone with strong analytical skills, an understanding of organisational development, and a passion for creating clear, effective procedures. You will be instrumental in designing and documenting policies and strategies that will improve efficiency, strengthen governance, and provide a clear roadmap for DRR's future.

Key Responsibilities & Duties:

• Research, develop, and draft new organisational policies and procedures across various functions (e.g., operations, finance, volunteer management, asset management).
• Assist in the development and refinement of DRR's strategic plan, ensuring alignment with our mission and long-term goals.
• Analyse existing processes to identify areas for improvement and propose solutions for greater efficiency and compliance.
• Help establish robust governance frameworks to support the Board and management.
• Collaborate closely with the Board (especially the President and Secretary), General Manager, and other functional leads.
• Ensure all policies and strategies align with relevant legislation, industry best practices, and DRR's objectives.
• Contribute to fostering a culture of clarity, accountability, and continuous improvement within DRR.
