About Us OurBigKitchen (OBK) is a community-run kitchen and food rescue organisation. We prepare and distribute thousands of meals every week for individuals and families in need, while working to reduce food waste.

We’re building our official OurBigKitchen mobile app to make it easier for volunteers to get involved, track their contributions, and stay connected to our mission.

What You’ll Work On As part of our volunteer development team, you’ll help design, build, and launch the OurBigKitchen app.

The app will include:

• Volunteer registration & onboarding
• Event discovery and sign-up for kitchen sessions
• Impact tracking for meals prepared & hours volunteered
• Social sharing to inspire others to join
• Personal dashboards showing each volunteer’s contributions
• Notifications for volunteer opportunities & updates

Our Current Tech Stack

• Mobile: iOS (SwiftUI, Combine, Core Data, UserNotifications)
• Backend: Node.js/TypeScript or Python microservices, REST APIs
• Infrastructure: Cloud deployment, GitHub Actions CI/CD, automated testing

What You’ll Gain

• Experience contributing to a real-world, mission-driven app

• Skills in full-stack development, from mobile UI to cloud deployment
• Experience in Git workflows, code reviews, and agile collaboration

We’re Looking For

• Experience in mobile app development (iOS, Swift, or similar) or backend development (Node.js, Python, REST APIs)
• Familiarity with GitHub and collaborative coding practices
• A passion for using your skills to create positive community impact

Commitment

• Flexible and remote – most of our team works asynchronously. We value reliability and clear communication over fixed hours.
