Lead Developer

We’re seeking a Lead Developer with a technical background who can work in a non-technical setting, and join our leadership team and shape the digital future of ITE. You’ll help us build smarter systems, streamline volunteer operations, and harness technology to ensure every student - no matter their postcode - has access to life-changing opportunities. This role is a combination of a) building our Scholarship Database Project and b) assisting on ad-hoc technology matters in our non-profit as it relates to the tutoring program.
What You'll Do:
- Lead the development and execution of our tech strategy
- Improve and manage our current tech stack (Google Workspace, automation tools, database systems, etc.)
- Build out new tools (e.g. scholarship platform, AI-based matching systems)
- Collaborate with a passionate, high-impact team of young changemakers
You might be a fit if you can:
- Collaborate with a small team of engineers and data scientists to design, build, and maintain an AI-focused database
- Develop and optimize backend systems, APIs, and data pipelines for efficient storage and retrieval
- Ensure data integrity, scalability, and performance Help integrate machine learning models or AI agents into the data architecture, as needed
- Participate in regular check-ins (virtual meetings or async updates)
Position Requirements:
- 3+ years of professional experience in software development
- Strong knowledge of Python, Node.js, or similar backend languages
- Experience with database architecture (SQL and/or NoSQL)
- Familiarity with cloud services (e.g., AWS, GCP, or Azure)
- Experience working with AI/ML frameworks or pipelines is a plus
- Ability to work independently and communicate effectively in a collaborative, remote environment
- Passion for technology for good and a willingness to contribute pro bono
