Help older families find the graves of their stillborn babies

Up until the 1980s, many stillborn babies in Australia were buried without bereaved families being involved or aware of the details of arrangements. Red Nose supports bereaved parents and siblings from this era to search for the graves of their family members. We also provide emotional support to these families – it is never too late to seek support.
In Victoria, we have an established group of volunteers who have documented strategies for searches. In other states, we need to develop a knowledge base on how to assist in searches. If you’re interested in being involved, we’d love to hear from you.
We're looking for volunteers with:
- The ability to understand and hold space for families who have experienced the loss of a baby and many years of uncertainty about where that little one was buried;
- Research skills including experience with archival or historical searches;
- Strong communication skills and the willingness to approach councils, cemeteries and health services for assistance;
- Cultural awareness: respect for diverse personal, cultural and religious beliefs and practices around death and grief;
- Resilience and commitment to self-care.
