About the opportunity: Christian Homeless Service is looking for a volunteer who may be able to assist our goal in helping the homeless community. We are looking for a volunteer professional grants writer who may be able to successfully secure a grant on our behalf to help advance the aims and goals of Christian Homeless Service. This is an unpaid position, volunteer position, namely aimed at those who wish to do their part for the community, or who may be retired and want to give back to the community by using their skills and experience. This is a flexible, self paced position, which can be performed from the comfort of your home. A thank you letter of commendation for your help will be provided.
The Grants Writer plays a key role in the support of Christian Homeless Service’s fundraising agenda with the purpose of helping to research and write funder proposals that would contribute to the fundraising objective of Christian Homeless Service. Core elements of the position include: • Identify new grant prospects and grow fundraising income for Christian Homeless Service’s programs and services. • Experience with grants management platforms and the grant life cycle process from establishment, application through to final acquittal. Highly desirable: proficient at grant applications and management of contractual agreements • Research of funders sources as needed (e.g. Trusts, Foundations, High Net Worth individuals and government). • Coordinate the strategy and activity plan for the grants to meet income goals. • Preparation, writing and delivery of successful funder submissions and research and development of compelling case for support material for identified projects • Report writing and other written communication requirements. • Record keeping through our Fundraising database. Role Requirements: Funder research: • Undertake targeted research of potential funders (individuals, government and organisations) to inform Christian Homeless Service funder level strategy and direction (i.e. type of funder, scale of investment etc.) • Identify suitable services, programs, or new opportunities that require funding.
Funder submissions and reports and writing: • Prepare, write and produce successful funder proposals and grant applications that frame and meet the needs of funders; applying a persuasive writing style. • Collaborate in delivering proposals and reports to funder timelines. • Collate, develop and maintain a repository of capability, organisation and service /product content to help build grants and streamline the writing process.
Suggested Requirements: Knowledge: • Demonstrated knowledge, passion and commitment to working in the non-profit/charity sector Experience: • Previous experience writing grants or winning grants • Applied creativity and innovation to proposal development • Experience in report writing Formal qualifications: • Desired but not obligatory: A Degree in relevant field (e.g. Journalism, Arts, Business, Marketing, Communications, Social Sciences) or equivalent work experience Skills and Ability: • Highly developed communication skills (especially written communication) to engage and persuade a broad range of stakeholders • Engage with internal and external stakeholders to shape objectives and outcomes for content development • Ability to write, edit, and review documents for internal and external audiences • Strong organisational skills with attention to detail • Time management and ability to prioritise and meet deadlines • Strong research and analytical skills • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office IT (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
