The NSW State Emergency Service (NSW SES) is a volunteer-based organisation that works with communities to prepare and respond to severe weather events. We are the lead agency for flood, storm and tsunami in NSW.

NSW SES volunteers come from all walks of life, bringing with them many different skills, interests and backgrounds. They are united by the purpose of supporting their communities in times of need.

While our major responsibilities are for flood and storm emergencies, NSW SES Murwillumbah Unit also provides:

  • Support roles to NSW Police for missing person or evidence searches (both urban and rural)
  • Community Engagement activities to develop community resilience and knowledge.

As the NSW SES Unit Commander for Murwillumbah Unit, you will play a crucial role in managing and leading a team of volunteers through various activities including incident management, operations, training and administration and by:

  • Fostering a positive and collaborative team culture, emphasizing excellence in professional volunteer emergency response.
  • Identifying areas for process improvement within the local units.
  • Delegating responsibility accordingly to enhance the capability of all members.
  • Conducting regular training sessions for the team to enhance their knowledge and emergency response skills.
  • Providing constructive feedback and coaching to unit members.
  • Engaging in professional training opportunities to enhance your skills in leadership &emergency response.
  • Connecting with regional leaders and expand your professional network.

About you:

  • No prior emergency service experience is required, but it is beneficial.
