Duties and Responsibilities of the FAR

In assisting the Board in fulfilling their responsibilities, the duties of the FAR:

  • Assessment of financial information
  • Appointment and management of external Auditor
  • Oversight of business risks and internal controls
  • Review of compliance with laws, regulations, industry codes
  • Reporting on the above to the Board

Independent Member Responsibilities:

An independent member of the Finance, Audit, and Risk Committee plays a vital role in maintaining financial integrity, effective risk management, and compliance with regulatory requirements. An independent and objective perspective is essential in providing credible oversight and ensuring Curling Australia’s long-term success and sustainability.

  • Contribute to the financial planning and risk management processes of Curling Australia.
  • Work closely with the Chair of the FAR Committee, to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.
  • Participate in regular FAR Committee meetings and provide insights on financial matters.
  • Assist in the presentation and analysis of company financial reports

Role Requirements:

  • Accountancy qualifications (CPA, CA, or equivalent).
  • Strong understanding of financial reporting and accounting principles.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team setting.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • A valid Working With Children Check or an ability to secure one prior to appointment as well as a subsequent Child Safe Interview.

Desirable Attributes:

  • Experience in a Board or committee setting.
  • Passion for sports and an understanding of the sporting landscape in Australia.
  • Willingness to commit time and effort to support the financial governance of Curling Australia.
