Supported Playgroup Helper - Kanwal
As a Supported Playgroup Helper, you will assist the Playgroup Facilitator in providing a safe, engaging, and educational environment for families attending our early intervention playgroup program. The program focuses on supporting parents with their parenting skills and helping children develop their social, emotional, and cognitive skills that they need to be ready for school. Through play, children will learn key skills such as communication, problem-solving, and teamwork, and parents will gain the confidence and tools to support their child’s growth.
Your role will involve assisting the facilitation of these developmental activities, building meaningful relationships with both parents and children, and ensuring that everyone feels supported and engaged. You will work directly with families who may be facing challenges, making your support invaluable in helping them thrive. Key Responsibilities:
• Support the Facilitator: Assist the Playgroup Facilitator in setting up, organising, and facilitating play-based learning activities that help children develop school readiness, language and social skills.
• Build Relationships: Develop trusting and positive relationships with both parents and children, offering support, encouragement, and guidance where needed.
• Engage with Children: Lead or assist with play activities that promote social interaction, emotional expression, and early childhood development. Your energetic approach will inspire children to explore, learn, and have fun.
• Provide Support to Parents: Create an open and supportive environment for parents and carers to discuss their parenting challenges and successes, helping them feel empowered and confident in their role. • Ensure a Safe and Positive Environment: Maintain clear and respectful boundaries, ensuring that the playgroup environment is safe, welcoming, and conducive to both child development and parent support.
• Prepare Morning Tea: Assist with preparing and serving morning tea for the children, creating a welcoming, social atmosphere that encourages connection. Basic computer skills are required for the initial onboarding process.
The ideal candidate for this role will be energetic, patient, and passionate about working with children and families. You should have strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect with and support both parents and children from diverse backgrounds. An enjoyment of engaging with children in an active, playful manner is essential. It’s important to understand and maintain professional boundaries, especially when working with vulnerable families, and to approach every interaction with respect, empathy, and confidentiality. While previous experience with children would be great, a willingness to learn about child development and parenting support is just as valuable. Your compassionate nature and dedication will help make a significant impact in the lives of the families we support.
As a Supported Playgroup Helper, you’ll be a key player in shaping the future of children and families on the Central Coast. Through play and support, you will empower families, reduce social isolation, and help children build the skills they need to succeed in school and life. Your involvement will directly contribute to improving the well-being of the community, one family at a time.
If you’re looking to make a meaningful difference and be part of a supportive team, this is the role for you!
