WISE - Social Support - Multiple roles / opportunities

Friendly Visitor – an opportunity to spend time with an older person in their home at a set time and day, regularly as determined by the customer.
Communication Specialist Telephone connection – an opportunity to chat one on one with a customer over the telephone at a set time and day, regularly as determined by the customer. Administration of regular check-in phone calls, reminders and organising and communicating with customers, other volunteers and transport providers.
Social Group Host & Navigator Host - a gathering in your local community. WISE has scheduled Café Connections gatherings in cafes. This activity is usually 1hour in duration. Lunch Connections are scheduled in restaurants and bistros to enable people to connect over a meal. This activity can be 2hours in duration. The hosting volunteer is someone who can be friendly and welcoming to people new to the group and location.
Kitchen Connector - Assists the Facilitator chef/dietitian to ensure a safe learning and cooking experience in the community kitchen. This role has many elements including welcoming and providing encouragement to the participants when they arrive and though out the session. The participants may come with anxiety, low confidence and uncertainty. Some of the participants have experienced losses, this may include becoming widowed and perhaps the spouse was the primary cook in the household. We support people who might feel sad and unfamiliar in the kitchen. The focus is on encouraging connections between the learners to encourage friendships beyond the class time. The volunteer is asked to prompt and support customers but also manage the needs of the facilitator to ensure dishes are washed, surfaces are clean and the space is kept clear and safe. Having fun is essential to ensure effective learning.
