Kitchen Coordinator / Cook
Gosford 50+ Leisure and Learning Centre Inc. is operated by a Voluntary Management Committee. The Centre’s main aim is to provide a safe, friendly environment for people over the age of 50 years to meet and participate in activities that will provide physical, mental and social wellbeing. As the volunteer Kitchen Coordinator / Cook, your work will directly impact the lives of older adults, bringing comfort, joy, and connection through the shared experience of a good meal. Duties include:
- Manage the kitchen volunteer schedule, ensuring all shifts are covered and that volunteers are informed and well-prepared to support the kitchen’s smooth operation. · Volunteer recruitment support, working with the Volunteer Coordinator to support the recruitment of new volunteers to the team, providing valuable information as to the team’s requirements.
- Check in with kitchen volunteers monthly, providing guidance and support to ensure that processes are followed, and best practices are maintained, helping the team work together efficiently.
- Provide support and encouragement to fellow volunteers, fostering a collaborative and positive environment where everyone feels valued and motivated to contribute.
- Plan and create nourishing, fresh, and affordable menus, keeping a balance of new and familiar meals that cater to the tastes and dietary needs of the senior community, ensuring that every meal promotes health, comfort, and joy.
- Cook hot meals every Tuesday for 10–12 people, preparing delicious and nutritious dishes that not only nourish but also bring seniors together for meaningful social interactions.
- Prepare morning and afternoon teas, as well as tea and coffee, offering seniors a welcoming place to relax and engage with others over a warm beverage, helping combat social isolation and creating a sense of community.
- Open and close the kitchen, ensuring the kitchen is ready for service and properly cleaned and secured at the end of each shift, maintaining a safe and welcoming environment.
- Provide a warm, welcoming space for seniors, ensuring the kitchen and dining area are inviting, fostering opportunities for socialisation and connection among members, helping to reduce loneliness and build lasting friendships.
- Engage with the easy visual cash register and support the team to process payments and manage orders, ensuring smooth transactions and efficient service, so seniors can enjoy their meals without delay. Onsite training in our supportive environment is provided to all our volunteers. As a Volunteer Kitchen Coordinator/Cook, you’ll play an essential role in more than just preparing meals. You’ll create a vibrant environment where seniors feel nourished, valued, and connected—whether through a hot meal, a warm cup of tea, or simply a friendly space to gather. Your work will be at the heart of our community, making a lasting impact on the lives of our seniors.
