Volunteer Court Support - Campbelltown

Mission Australia Court Support Services offers information and support to victims of crime and prosecution witnesses attending criminal courts. Giving evidence can be confusing, stressful and at times traumatic. We work to help minimise these potential negative effects and empower people.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide emotional support and reassurance to victims, witnesses, and their families during court proceedings.
- Offer general information about court processes and assist individuals in navigating the court environment.
- Accompany individuals to courtrooms, waiting areas, and meetings with legal representatives.
- Liaise with court staff, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), and support agencies as needed.
- Maintain confidentiality and uphold professional boundaries at all times.
- Report any concerns or significant interactions to the Court Support Coordinator.
Essential Criteria:
- High degree of flexibility with availability, including short-notice requests.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to provide calm and compassionate support in stressful situations.
- Willingness to attend court for multiple consecutive days if required.
- Commitment to confidentiality and professional ethics.
- Patience and understanding when working with victims of crime and vulnerable individuals.
Desirable Criteria:
- Previous experience in counselling, social work, victim support, or a related field.
- Understanding of court processes or a willingness to learn.
- Experience working with legal or community support organizations.
