Finance Officer

The Finance Officer plays an important role in supporting the effectiveness of this startup NFP, by ensuring accurate and timely bookkeeping, and providing quality financial information and advice to the CEO and Board. This role would work collaboratively with the Treasurer who provides strategic oversight and oversees cash flow forecasting and strategic budgeting.
We estimate this role will require a commitment of 8-10 hours each month. We use Xero as our main reporting, BAS processing, payroll and accounting software.
The Finance Officer is responsible for:
- Processing all financial transactions in an accurate and timely way, including reconciling all transactions on Xero
- Preparing fortnightly payroll and superannuation requirements
- Preparing and lodging the quarterly BAS
- Preparing the monthly financial report to the Board and joining monthly Board meetings to discuss financial information
- Being part of the Finance & Risk Committee and joining its monthly meeting to discuss the financial situation prior to the Board meeting
- Drafting the annual FWP budget, in collaboration with the Board
- Reviewing financial budgets prepared by the CEO (or others) for events and other FWP activities
- Evolving templates, procedures, and other documents to improve the effectiveness of financial processes
- Ensuring the tax and reporting financial requirements for the NFP are met
- Supporting other CEO and Board related finance matters as required
We would love you to bring the following to the role:
- Experience as an accountant or bookkeeper, ideally with NFP experience
- Highly capable user of Xero and Microsoft excel
- Organised, reliable and accurate in your work
- Resourceful, with a desire to leave things better than you found them
- Able to commit to a period of at least 12 months and 8-10 hours a month
- Optional but desired: A passion for nature and (trail) running, and an alignment with FWP’s purpose to create a world where wild places are collectively cherished and protected, using sports activism as the vehicle for linking human happiness and environmental well-being.
