Role Overview The Competition Lead is responsible for managing all aspects of the GovHack competition. They are involved in ensuring a fair and equitable competition, with relevant themes.This role ensures a fair, transparent, and engaging process for all participants by developing competition guidelines, overseeing submission reviews and judging processes, and maintaining rigorous adherence to deadlines and quality standards. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, strategic, and experienced in competition management or project coordination.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and fine-tune comprehensive competition rules, judging criteria, and evaluation processes that align with GovHack’s mission.
  • Contribute to the development of competition themes.
  • Oversee the entire competition lifecycle, from launch through submission collection, evaluation, and final judging, ensuring timely feedback and a seamless process.
  • Organise and facilitate the judging process in collaboration with judges and subject matter experts to ensure impartiality and transparency.
  • Liaise with sponsors, challenge providers, and partners to ensure that competition content and expectations meet strategic objectives.
  • Monitor and enforce competition timelines, proactively addressing any issues or delays to maintain smooth execution.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for participants, offering clear guidance, promptly answering queries, and ensuring an engaging competition experience.
  • Document lessons learned and analyze feedback to enhance future iterations of the competition.
  • Establish and implement the competition framework and robust judging systems.
  • Provide innovative insights and new ideas to continually elevate the competition.
  • Collaborate with sponsors to develop compelling challenges that resonate with GovHack’s goals and themes.
  • Define the overall strategy and direction for GovHack’s competition, detailing its structure and key components.
  • Work closely with the Technology Team to ensure all systems and infrastructure are fully prepared and thoroughly tested prior to the competition.

Desired Skills and Qualifications

  • Proven experience in competition management, project coordination, or a related field.
  • Strong organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to handle multiple tasks concurrently.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective engagement with participants, judges, sponsors, and team members.
  • Detail-oriented with a commitment to fairness and quality in evaluation processes.
  • Strategic and creative thinker with a passion for open data, civic innovation, and problem-solving.
  • Familiarity with digital platforms for submission management and evaluation is a plus.

Expected Time Commitment 20 hours per month.
