Role Overview

The GovHack Media Team Lead is responsible for overseeing all aspects of GovHack’s media strategy and execution. This role involves managing day-to-day media activities, coordinating with various teams, and ensuring that all media requirements are met within deadlines. It is ideal for individuals with a background in journalism, videography, photography, and communications. As the Media Team Lead, you will build and lead a team of volunteers to deliver high-quality, timely media initiatives that capture the spirit and energy of GovHack.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create comprehensive media campaigns and plans that enhance GovHack’s visibility and strengthen our brand presence.
  • Manage the production of press releases, coordinate with media outlets, and secure coverage to highlight GovHack events and milestones.
  • Oversee the production of multimedia content, including videography, photography, and digital storytelling, video-streaming, live streaming, broadcast, ensuring high-quality visuals that resonate with our audience.
  • Work closely with Event Managers and regional teams to ensure that media content is cohesive and aligns with the overall event messaging.
  • Create high quality content for sponsorship, marketing and events
  • Ensure all media initiatives adhere to GovHack’s governance and branding guidelines, as well as any applicable compliance standards.
  • Develop backup strategies to address unexpected challenges in media coverage, ensuring seamless communication even under pressure.
  • Track media campaign performance, document lessons learned, and identify areas for future improvement.
  • Provide clear direction and support to the media team, ensuring responsibilities and deadlines are met while fostering a collaborative environment.
  • Demonstrate a strong passion for technology, open government, and civic innovation, driving creative and impactful media initiatives that align with GovHack’s mission.

Desired Skills and Qualifications

  • Experience in journalism, videography, photography, or media production is essential.
  • 1–2 years of leadership or supervisory experience in managing teams, volunteers, or staff is highly desirable.
  • Proven ability to motivate and guide cross-functional teams towards achieving shared media goals.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for effective engagement with stakeholders, team members, volunteers, and participants.
  • A strong creative flair with the ability to tell compelling visual stories.

**Expected Time Commitment: **

25 hours per month, could be closer to the main events.
