Social Support Volunteer for Children with Disability

About the program

The Social Support Volunteer for children with a disability will be supporting our Home-Based Care Team in Barwon. MacKillop's Home-Based Care program helps maintain and support carer households to meet the needs of children in Out-of-Home Care utilising a therapeutic lens.

Possible tasks

Volunteer responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:

  • ·visiting the family regularly
  • building trust with the family and the child
  • playing with the child
  • respecting the child’s and family’s needs
  • monitoring the child’s safety at all times
  • providing ongoing progress updates on the volunteer’s contact visits

Key selection criteria

The Carer Recruitment Volunteer will need:

  • Understanding and commitment to the values of MacKillop Family Services
  • Experience or willingness to learn about people with disabilities
  • Ability to supervise a child autonomously and guarantee safety
  • Self-awareness and the ability to reflect critically
  • The skill to connect in a playful way with children
  • Ability to respond appropriately in the event of client incident
  • To commit to at least 6 months of regular volunteering
