Literacy Program Volunteer - Ashfield and Various Sydney Locations - # 224287

The program Bill Crews Foundation (BCF) has run literacy programs for over 30 years and supported thousands of primary school children in their learning journeys. We use mixed-method approaches and our environments are fun and safe spaces where children can flourish. Our fundamental aim is to get children back on track for their reading and in-turn, enhance their self-confidence and long-term educational experience. BCF is now seeking volunteers to support our team of literacy instructors in our schools across Sydney.
Where: Our reading clubs are run in various schools around Lethbridge; Bexley; Ashfield; Toongabbie; Marrickville
When: Monday- Thursday, 9am-2pm. Volunteers would be required for between 2-4 hours per day and ideally would work a minimum of 2 days per week (flexible).
Duties
Volunteers would support on a range of duties as set out by the literacy instructor such as:

Teaching reading including decoding, phonics, comprehension etc to small groups (2-10 children per group)

1-2-1 lessons under supervision

Testing
-
Program administration
-
Other duties as assigned
Volunteer requirements
-
Valid WWCC from last 6 months
-
Experience of working with children (essential)

Enrolled, qualified or pursuing a degree or diploma in an education-related field (preferred)

Positive attitude; patient; excellent listening skills; team player (essential)

Willing, ability and commitment to follow the instructor’s guidance and to effectively carry out their assigned duties

Willingness/ability to travel to inner west or western Sydney
