Friendship Volunteers for People Living with Dementia

Wesley Aged Care Volunteer Visitors is a service that connects volunteers with older Australians who may be experiencing loneliness and isolation.
It can take as little as one hour a fortnight to drop in and say hello. Maybe you will have a cuppa and a chat, talk about old days or tap your toes to some 50’s classics. You can be a warm and welcoming friend to someone who needs the community to come to them because they can’t get out into the community anymore.
We have several people living with early and mid-stages of dementia who have become isolated due to the impacts of this challenging illness. Each individual is assessed for their suitability to be visited by a volunteer.
Most visiting happens in a Residential Aged Care Home with lots of support at hand if you feel unsure. We are looking for extra generous and patient volunteers to bring cheer to our friends who are living with dementia.
- Do you have experience relating to people with living with dementia?
- Do you understand the benefit that one on one time offers an older person?
- Could you give 1 hour a week or a fortnight to make a difference to an older person in your community?
Our volunteers often say they get as much out of volunteering as they put in and they love sharing stories with the older person they visit. They love hearing stories of the past and getting to know a new friend.
