L-Driving Supervisor!

Are you passionate about making a positive difference in your community? Do you enjoy engaging with young people and helping them achieve important life milestones? This is your chance to make a difference! Burdekin is seeking dedicated volunteers to step into the role of L-Driving Supervisors.
As an L-Driving supervisor, your primary role will be to support and supervise Learner drivers to gain practical experience. This means you’ll accompany the driver and ensure they’re following road rules, driving responsibly and gaining the experience they need to be confident on the road. During the session, you’ll provide guidance, feedback and encouragement to help them improve their driving skills.
You'll be required to supervise drivers during a variety of conditions and situations, such as city driving, highway driving, and within potentially adverse weather conditions. You will need to remain calm, alert and focused, while also supporting the driver to navigate through tricky situations like traffic, complex intersections and parking. At all times, you'll prioritise safety, ensuring the driver is following best practices, while maintaining a comfortable and supportive learning environment.
Key Responsibilities for a Burdekin L-Driving volunteer include:
- Driving supervision: supervise L-Drivers during practical sessions by providing guidance, feedback and correction as required
- Safety: ensure all driving lessons are conducted in a safe manner, by completing appropriate vehicle safety checks prior to commencing a session and by following NSW road rules
- Preparation for test: support the young person build the skills necessary to low-risk driving (observation, speed management, road positioning, decision making and response to hazards)
- Encouragement and guidance: aid in developing the young person’s confidence and skillset, through constructive feedback
- Record keeping: maintain accurate records of driving sessions (logging odometer reads, time, dates, conditions etc. and a record of engagement)
- Communication: provide updates to the Volunteer Team and young person’s Case Manager regarding the progress of the L-Driver detailing any challenges
Selection Criteria:
Essential
- Must hold Full driver license for a minimum of 5-years
- No driving and/or drug related offences within the last 5-years
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Valid Working with Children Check
- National Police Check
- Knowledge of road safety and NSW road rules
Desirable
- Experience in L-Driving supervision
- Experience in working with children and young people
- Knowledge of Out of Home Care and Specialist Homelessness Services
- Understanding of trauma informed care
