Palliative Care Family Support - Western and South Western Sydney - #223597

Sydney Children's Hospital Network

This is a community/home based volunteer program for patients referred to Palliative Care at Sydney Children's Hospital Network at Westmead.

I am seeking to reflect our patient diversity in our volunteer team so therefore particularly interested in anyone who can speak Arabic (but please don’t be discouraged from applying if you don’t).

Volunteers who live in Western and South Western suburbs of Sydney (or willingness to travel to those suburbs) is also highly desirable. Also keen for volunteers in South Western Sydney area (with or without a second language). You will be matched with a family who have a child with a life limiting illness and visit the family weekly in their home. Some travel will be required to the home requiring access to a car and a drivers licence.

Duties range from playing with well siblings, interacting with the patient and providing a listening ear and help to a mum or carer. Sometimes you can accompany them on outings or to medical appointments or help with practical chores in the home such as folding washing.

This role would suit mature minded volunteers with life experience to fulfil all the requirements for this position.

This is a chance to make such a meaningful difference to these famlies who are often quite isolated. This role is good for those looking for a long term volunteer role.
